PHILIPS DVD-963SA
This is a great sounding player stock, it is CHEAP, and has alot of hidden potential. We take it to a much further level than one would expect. We have decided for this machine to start receiving exotic mods and parts as we have been suprised lately with the amount of hidden performance that can come from this sleeper. So much more realism, wider soundstages, blacker backgrounds, emotion, resolution, refined bass, attack, etc etc etc... If you want a KILLER sounding player, and want to blow away those high end flagships, this is the player to get and mod!!!

Modification Descriptions

-Standard Mod AV Board/SMPS Power Supply upgrades

AV Board Capacitor Upgrades-
We add and replace specific critical capacitors on the AV Board with Rubycon ZL/ZA Capacitors! These offer higher ripple currents and lower impedances than any other cap and sound much better than the phasing out Blackgates. Major improvement! The background becomes blacker, and instruments emerge like they are so real. A definite change in total sonic tonality and character!

Switched Mode Power Supply upgrade-
We replace critical capacitors and diodes in the SMPS with Rubycon ZL/ZA and Stealth Ultra Soft recovery Diodes. These new diodes give the unit a "tubelike" sound to the unit from our listening sessions.We replace the stock smoothing cap with an Exotic Jensen 4-pole version which provides increased performance over 2-poles design which "push" noise, the Jensen blocks noise and decouples. Also, we re-engineer the board and eliminate some energy robbing devices. This brings much more resolution, better defined and deeper bass and more sonic character. This really makes this player sound cleaner, more robust and authoritive. This upgrade also makes the video portion look/sound better as well.! Great Upgrade!

ACME Audio Labs Cryogenicly treated Silver IEC connector-
This will replace the stock flimsy IEC connector. Better power transfer characteristics, definitely improves the sound!

Audiocom Superclock 4-S Reference Clock Upgrade ($295 Free Install!!)- We add a reference quality jitter reduction circuit called a Superclock 3 , this a major improvement in overall sound! This replaces the master clock and offers much lower jitter rate than the stock cmos type oscillator. Expanded soundstages and accurate instrument definitions for example are the many outcomes of this major mod component. Please give the unit well over 300 hours to break-in with this clock. Bonus! WE ARE NOW INCLUDING A PROPRIETARY C37 TWEAK TO THE CLOCK BOARD AND WE MAKE A VERY SPECIAL SILVER WIRE LOW IMPEDENCE CABLE FOR HOOKUP. THE RESULTS ARE AMAZING! ESTIMATED COST FOR THESE TWEAKS ARE $75, THEY ARE NOW INCLUDED FREE WITH THIS MOD PACKAGE!!

Audiocom Superclock 4 Power Supply Unit (modified)($295 Free Install!!)- We add a discrete power supply for the Superclock 4-S that adds another level of performance to the unit. Increased dynamics and resolution is what to be expected. We further modify the power supply with Rubycon ZA/ZL capacitors to take it even further. The clock power supply is needed to truly have a matched package with the SC3 clock!!!

Herbies Audio Lab Tenderfeet-($45 Installed) We replace the stock crappy feet with 4 herbies audio labs tenderfeet. There is a difference in sound! Subtle but noticable! The stock plastic feet are not good! These do work! And now the unit feels like it has some Authority in vibration control.

High Resolution High Performance Transformer Output Stage Mods ($650 Installed) Now you can get very stunning resolution and dynamics from our Signature Transformer Output Stage exclusively using Audio Consulting signal coupling transformers! These transformer are very rare, handmade and come direct from Switzerland! This totally redefines the Philips DVD-963SA output stage, which squashes dynamics and resolution and is very slow sounding and constricted in our opinion. Also now we can effectively and inherently provide galvanic isolation. Music is much quieter, cleaner, more resolute with no lack of dynamics! You will be stunned! Much more music, emotion, and drive. We add a set of high performance WBT Nextgen RCA connectors for the closest to "no connector" connection possible. These are the best sounding RCA female chassis connectors on the market!
