COUPLING/SIGNAL TRANSFORMERS 

For extremely high quality sound RAM recommends using the Audio Consulting signal coupling transformers. We have had great success with our reference Philips player using only a silver rock 1:2 transformer per channel directly coupled to the dac chip. This essentially eliminates all output stage and power supply elements producing a much purer and resolving musical connection! Since the Philips uses a voltage out dac chip it makes this configuration possible but interestingly, great improvements are heard even if the transformers are placed after an active output stage. Why? Transformers inherently provide galvanic isolation. Music is quieter, cleaner, more resolute with no lack of dynamics! Where to install? If your player uses a voltage out dac couple directly between dac chip and output jacks If your player uses a current out dac couple after the I/V stage then to output jacks. If your player uses multiple current out dacs you may try implementing a passive I/V with a resistor to ground then using a 1:2 transformer coupled between I/V and output jacks. If you do not want to tamper with your output stage use the transformers for isolation between player and interconnect/amplifier.
