As we all know clean precise power is absolutely critical for the reproduction of music, thus the reason we upgrade capacitors, resistors, diodes, etc… Therefore, we can agree that every component on a power rail will affect the sound for the better or worse depending on what part is used. Well, we have found that very few audiophiles pay attention to the actual voltage regulator which essentially accepts an input voltage and sends the proper voltage to the IC that it is feeding. (CRITICAL!!) We here at RAM want to stress the absolute importance of having low noise wide bandwidth discrete regulators on your power rails. It is an undeniable improvement! You will hear greater detail, less hash, smoother highs, better defined bass, everything will improve. Welcome the Super-Regulator! It provides an excellent, convenient solution to the typical 3-pin stock regulators. Simply remove and replace for much improved sound.

Even in the best Hi-Fi, noise generated by regulation masks essential parameters that prevent us hearing our recorded music collections as the performer intended. Compromises made with standard voltage regulation corrupts the circuitry with poor noise levels and slow speed veiling subtle detail, hindering the attack and decay of instruments, detail and space.

A typical electronic regulator has an output noise of approx 40mV within a 1KHz bandw, and this noise level increases with frequency. The output impedance increases with frequency from1 KHz up. The slow speed is a product of the regulators narrow bandw, and an accuracy of approx 4% is likely to result in voltage drift.

These poor quality regulators are typically; JRC7805, BA05T, LM340T5, LM7805, LM340T12, LM340T15, LM320T5, LM320T12, LM320T15.

Other voltage regulators we have tested which give better results are; L78S05CV, LM323T, LT323AT, LT1084-CT5.

None of these standard voltage regulators provide the criterion for fast transient response, low noise and wide bandw, and as a result will compromise the performance of your Hi-Fi.

We have developed a completely different approach and designed a circuit which vastly outperforms standard voltage regulators.

This design starts with a low noise precision voltage reference, the output from this is RC filtered before feeding into one of the industries lowest noise operational amplifiers. The output from this op-amp controls a high current series pass transistor. Incorporated within the feedback loop there is additional filtering. The supply to the op-amp has extra pole of low pass filtering.

A noise level of less than 1mV, and a speed greater than 10x the best regulators on the market enables the circuitry in your CD player to function closer to its potential. Previously concealed low level information is revealed, along with dynamics and detail. A clean, open sound stage is created, with superb definition of vocals and instruments.

The Super-regulator maximum current rating is 300mA with the addition of a heat sink. For higher current applications use the Q-power regulator.

Boards which include the pins are recommended for use without a heatsink.
Boards that do not include the pins are recommended for use with a heatsink.

As a guide to replacing a positive fixed voltage regulator, the digits for manufacturers part number LM7805CT can be specified as, LM = manufacturer, 78 = fixed positive (79 = fixed negative), 05 = 5 volts.

When fixing a heatsink to Super-regulator a thermal conductive sheet and insulating bush must be used.
