VOLUME CONTROLS 

Us audiophiles (passionate? or maybe deranged!!) are on a relentless search for audio nirvana. A fundamental yet complex stop in one's journey always includes the preamp or volume control dilemma.  The solutions that are available-tube/solid state preamps, passive attenuators, and digital volume control all provide varying degrees of performance some better than others.  Our passion has led us to try all 3 solutions with **none** approaching the clarity and directness of "nothing at all" In short, connecting directly into an amplifier allowed us to hear far more,..Period.    Unfortunately, having no control of the volume is not practical by any means and simply is not an option.   Well, I am happy to introduce a new solution that has had me in awe for the few weeks it has been in my system. The awesome Silver Rock Transformer Potentiometer; developed by Serge Schmidlin of Audio Consulting in Switzerland.   Removing the Placette Passive from my reference system and replacing it with the SRTP was nothing short of amazing.  The amount of music coming through my Von Schweikert VR5's was staggering with a sense of ease and PRAT that only reminded me of "nothing at all".    To keep it simple all the "buzz" words in audio were significantly improved but the 2 that hit me the hardest were clarity and dynamics.  How can it be cleaner than a Vishay S102C?  The SRTP, as its name implies, is a transformer with multiple secondaries to controlling the volume. There are no resistors in series with the signal and it is completely passive meaning no power cord to buy! The ultra low impedance of the SRTP gives you the ultimate in dynamics especially at low levels seemingly a major drawback with resistive based solutions. Well, I could go on and on but I think you have got the picture I love it!!  Reference Audio Mods invites you to audition the “no compromise solution" to volume control - The Silver Rock Transformer Potentiometer.
