Product Code: P1000M Price: Check Latest
This first generation multi-channel player presents incredible value for the audio enthusiast by way of its versatility, appearance, price, and most of all sonics. Stunned by its stock performance, providing good transparency and resolution while remaining for the most part tonally neutral, we immediately realized this thing had awesome potential if modded. Our goal was Two part: Eliminate the shortcomings (slight hi-fi character, lacking dimensionality and dynamics) improve on its strengths (clarity, transparency, resolution).
The modification includes complete Electrolytic capacitor replacement with Standard Black Gate capacitors, complete diode replacement with soft-recovery type, and finally significantly reduced jitter by way of the Superclock. Additionally, all internal Superclock connection uses Audio Consulting’s pure silver wire!
After 150 hours of break-in, listening tests confirmed that we achieved our goal. The tonal character took on a more organic quality while depth, width, and space all improved quite significantly! Everything sounds more in the room! What is already considered clean and clear became much cleaner and clearer. Inner detail is much easier to hear and background became much quieter giving the illusion of more air and space between the instruments. The music simply has become more real!!
Upgrade This upgrade includes a Superclock II (w/hookup wire), Superclock II Power Supply, Black Gate capacitors, and diodes. In addition you may wish to upgrade the Switch Mode Supply capacitors and diodes.

Hello all, After reading everyone’s exciting reviews on their modified gear I decided to take the plunge. I had originally set out in search of the famous XA777ES but after careful deliberation I decided that the price tag was to steep for my pocketbook. So one day I stumbled into my local retailer and found a Philips SACD 1000 demo piece for 699.00. I could not pass up the opportunity to check out his piece for that price so I bought it. My original impression was excellent sound stage with great dynamics but lacking in the bass response. That was when I stumbled across Reference Audio Mods. I dropped the player off to them and that was when the transformation began. After a quick 2-week wait I received the player back with about 35 new Black Gate caps, 22 new soft recovery diodes and the legendary SuperClock and that is when I found out what I had been missing.
I got it home and the first SACD I put in was Alison Krauss. Right off the bat I noticed how much deeper the soundstage was. The singer and instruments no longer sounded like they were standing on top of each other in the middle. There was a much greater sense of space, an imaging that I had never heard in my system. I then put in James Taylor and what used to be a bit of a booming bass was now tight and precise. His voice was smooth and free from any harshness. Classical SACD also took on the same sense of space. The music flowed into one big sound stage that went from beyond the right side of the right speaker to beyond left side of the left speaker instead of the collapsed feeling I had felt before that was condensed to the enter of the 2 speakers.
I noticed the same quality’s in regular Redbook cd’s to at least the same degree. I now for the first time have stopped listening to the equipment and started listening to the MUSIC. Now I just want to upgrade the pre-amp and the amp Any Idea’s J
