There are several solutions available, and many work very well, however, we felt the PS Audio unit did the best job for the money-Truly a great and innovative idea and solution for power cleansing and reconditioning. As good as this product is its still built to a price point and it prompted us to investigate its parts quality. First, let us give a brief description of its stock performance. Upon plug in we noticed a considerable reduction in background noise thus bringing much better detail, imaging, and dynamics. A layer of haze and grit seemed to be lifted from the music bringing us much closer to the recording. All in all, we were thoroughly impressed! One pitfall, the music appeared to have a slight edgy, dry, and hi-fi character to it especially in the treble region - It's gotta be the parts! The performance upgrade consists of complete Black Gate electrolytic capacitor installment on the oscillator board as well as on the amplifier main board less the large reservoir capacitors (would be way too costly). Rectifiers and diodes are replaced with Soft-recovery type and the supply to the oscillator board is fed by Audiocom's Q-power discrete regulation. Finally, we used Audio Consulting's pure silver internal wire for all Q-power connections! And the results… Wow, what an improvement in sound! Instantly, even before any break-in, there was a more natural coherent sound eliminating any signs of dryness and hi-fi descriptors. Even more detail and a much blacker background came through giving us a feeling of glorious tubes without the euphonics-just real music in real space-awesome!
